The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled plans to conduct the first-ever free computer-based mock exam specifically tailored for private candidates gearing up for the 2024 first-series West African Senior Secondary School Examination (WASSCE).

Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC’s national office in Lagos, shared this exciting development in a statement posted on the regulator’s website.

The mock examination is strategically scheduled to take place on January 23 and 24, serving as a preparatory exercise leading up to the main Computer-Based WASSCE for Private Candidates, which is set to commence on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. In a bid to ensure a smooth transition to the computer-based format, prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the mock test.

The official statement emphasized the practical aspects of the mock exam, stating, “Candidates are expected to log on to the mockcbt.waec.org.ng portal from their mobile phones or personal computers to take the examination. The mock examination portal will be accessible all day, for the two days. Candidates would be allowed to access the mock examination page a second time if the first attempt fails.”

To facilitate candidates’ engagement with the process, WAEC will send information containing login details directly to the registered candidates’ respective email addresses and phone numbers once the registration phase concludes. Additionally, the statement assured candidates of a supportive learning environment by providing a link to a tutorial video on how to navigate the examination portal, which will be accessible on all of WAEC’s social media platforms.

In closing, the statement extended best wishes to all candidates for the upcoming examination, expressing hopes for both success and a wonderful experience throughout the process. This initiative reflects WAEC’s commitment to embracing technological advancements and ensuring a seamless transition for private candidates undertaking the Computer-Based WASSCE for the first time in 2024.
