Wike Declares Tough Stance Against FCT Kidnappers, No More Bail For Suspects

In a decisive move aimed at bolstering security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike has announced a stringent approach against kidnappers. Speaking at a security town hall in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Friday, January 26, Wike emphasized that kidnappers would no longer be granted bail under his watch.

Wike directed the chairmen of the six Area Councils in the FCT to conduct mandatory monthly security meetings to address and enhance the security situation in their respective areas. He underscored the importance of these meetings, warning that any chairman failing to adhere to this directive would be held accountable for potential security breaches in their council.

Expressing his determination to eradicate the practice of granting bail to kidnappers, Wike stressed the need for collaboration among traditional leaders, council chairmen, and security agencies. He emphasized the collective responsibility of each stakeholder in maintaining a secure environment.

“Gone are the days when kidnappers will be granted bail. I will not allow it again. We will ensure that the kidnapper is punished,” declared Wike during the town hall meeting.

Furthermore, Wike pledged government support to provide necessary resources for security agencies, acknowledging the challenges they face in terms of equipment and operational vehicles. He urged a proactive approach, emphasizing the crucial role of information-sharing through area councils, traditional rulers, and his office to enable security agencies to take swift actions.

“Our role is not to carry guns; ours is to provide information through the area councils, through our traditional rulers; and through my office, then to security agencies,” Wike affirmed.
