Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu have again captured the limelight after the governor was seen publicly snubbing a handshake from his deputy at the inauguration of Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State.

GWG.ng reports that the handshake snub is not the first time that Obaseki and Shaibu will capture the public limelight over their disagreements.

At the public ceremony to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the old Midwest Region in Benin City, Shaibu did not even have the opportunity to near Obaseki as he was fenced off by the governor’s security details who physically blocked him from approaching the governor.

Following that, Governor Obaseki gave an instruction for Shaibu to relocate his office from within the Government House to another office complex.

In the latest development of the public spat between the two men a video shared by Symfoni showed Shaibu shaking other dignitaries including governors at Diri’s inauguration but a handshake with Obaseki was turned down by the governor.

When it got to Obaseki’s turn, the governor chose to wave despite that his deputy stretched his hand for handshake.

GWG.ng reports that Shaibu is vying for the PDP governorship ticket while Obaseki is believed to be backing  Asue Ighodalo in the Edo 2024 election.
