Controversial social commentator Reno Omokri has weighed in on the recent appointment of Oladimeji Ojo, son-in-law to President Bola Tinubu, as the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

Ojo’s appointment came as part of the reconstitution of the Executive Management teams of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, drawing scrutiny from some quarters, particularly on social media, over concerns of nepotism and the perception of Nigeria as a family business.

However, Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, offered a differing perspective, asserting that there’s nothing inherently wrong with the appointment as long as the appointee is capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of the role.

In a statement shared on X, Omokri defended the appointment of Ojo by Tinubu saying: “There is absolutely nothing wrong with President Tinubu appointing his son-in-law as the head of the Federal Housing Authority, as long as the man concerned is qualified for the job. That is not nepotism.”

Drawing parallels from American political history, Omokri highlighted instances where family members were appointed to key positions in government, such as President John F Kennedy appointing his brother, Robert F Kennedy, as Attorney General, and President Donald Trump nominating his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as a Senior Advisor.

However, GWG.ng reports that such appointments were subsequently outlawed.
