Christians must not give into hopelessness on account of the dire stress and darkness engulfing the land, Pastor Sunny Onoja has said.

Delivering the Sunday message at the Hospital Chapel, National Hospital, Abuja, Bro Onoja said that the hope of believers in Jesus was quite distinct from the hope of the world which he said was essentially built on wishful thinking.

Speaking on the topic “Our hope is built on the living God,” Onoja affirmed that the hope of the Christian is built on the certainty of eternity with God and also of actualizing the purpose and promise of God on earth.

GWG.ng reports that Onoja who is the secretary of the church started by building his homily from 1 Timothy 4:10 and progressed to assure the Christian to look beyond the present despair saying:
“In this world that is full of darkness hope gives us the staying power to continue. When you hear that people lose hope the next thing you hear is that they go on to commit suicide,” the cleric said as he enjoined his listeners that they may not be immune to pressures and persecutions.

He particularly mentioned the apostles of Jesus pointing out how James was beheaded at the onset of the church. According to the preacher it was a development that brought gloom but that the church did not lose hope so that when the same murderous plot was conceived against Peter, the plot did not sail through because of the hope the church placed in God.

Pastor Onoja as such enjoined his hearers to know that if they built their hope on God that nothing would puncture the destiny they have in Christ.

“In all of this you should know that if it is not your time, you are not going down and that is the hope we have.

“In all of these troubles surrounding us we must keep our hope alive knowing that unless God permits, nothing will happen to us.”

Apparently linking with the church’s theme of 2023 built around Faith, the preacher went on to assert that hope is the pillar upon which faith is built on.

The man of God subsequently went on to encourage his hearers on the Blessed Hope of appearing before the Lord in the life beyond the earth.

While entrenching the biblical basis of the Blessed Hope of the Christian on the redemptive work of Christ on Calvary, he said that Jesus became poor that we should be rich and became homeless for us to have a home over our heads in the journey towards eternity.

As he concluded, he enjoined the congregation to also have hope in accelerated grace saying that having languished over the years will not rule anyone from glory here on earth or in the world following if there is hope.

He cited the case of Joseph who languished in Egypt for 12 years and slept one night as a prisoner and was the next day the prime minister of the country.

He cited the example of the deer which he said skips playfully on mountain tops which is ordinarily a difficult task for other animals or men, affirming that when acceleration comes, it covers up for the past years of waiting.

GWG.ng reports that the service was interspersed with worship and testimonies of blessings and God’s grace in time of sorrow.
