Soldiers in Lagos

The charade of masquerading as soldiers came to an abrupt halt for two individuals, identified as Jonathan Yahaya and Mohammed Umar on Wednesday after they found themselves in handcuffs, accused of falsely assuming the guise of military personnel.

The revelation unfolded when a Major from the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army Provost, stationed at Bonny Camp, Victoria Island, Lagos, intercepted the bogus soldiers and swiftly handed them over to the police at Onikan Police Division.

Confirming the incident, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos Command, shed light on the circumstances surrounding the arrests. One suspect was apprehended clad in camouflage trousers and black combat boots, while his accomplice sported the full regalia of the Nigerian Army uniform.

Upon intensive questioning, the facade crumbled as both individuals failed to provide a coherent account of how they obtained the army uniform, exposing their fraudulent charade.

“The suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations,” Hundeyin affirmed, underscoring the gravity of their deception.

The swift action by the Nigerian Army and law enforcement agencies underscores the zero-tolerance approach towards impersonation and the safeguarding of the integrity of military attire. As investigations progress, the full extent of the impostors’ activities and any potential accomplices will be uncovered, ensuring justice is served.
