Fatawa Remi Tinubu

National outrage has been stirred by a video circulating on social media that showed an Islamic cleric placing a Fatwa for First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu to be killed for supposedly being the leader of the infidels (Non-Muslims) in Nigeria.

GWG.ng reports that the Islamic cleric not being satisfied with a Muslim-Muslim ticket presiding over the affairs of Nigeria took exception to the fact that the First Lady, Remi Tinubu is a Christian and as such the leader of the infidels in the land and hence the fatwa.

The cleric’s inflammatory remark has drawn widespread condemnation, with many expressing shock and outrage at the incitement of violence against a public figure.

Senator Shehu Sani, a former senator and human rights activist, has taken a leading role in condemning the cleric’s fatwa on Senator Remi Tinubu.

In a post on his official social media handle, Senator Sani emphasized that while criticizing the government and its policies is a fundamental right in a democracy, calling for violence against individuals is unacceptable and condemnable. He stressed the importance of upholding democratic principles and respecting the rights and safety of all citizens, regardless of their political or religious affiliations.

Senator Sani’s strong stance against the cleric’s fatwa on Remi Tinubu shows the need for accountability and the protection of freedom of speech, while also emphasizing the imperative to reject incitement to violence and extremism.

Senator Shehu Sani, who served as a senator representing Kaduna Central from 2015 to 2019 under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has remained an outspoken advocate for human rights and democratic values. Despite his departure from the APC to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) after losing the reelection ticket, Senator Sani continues to champion causes aimed at promoting justice, equality, and respect for human dignity.

Many other Nigerians joined him in expressing outrage over the fatwa on Remi Tinubu by the Islamic cleric.
