KCee on Eedris

Nigerian singer KCee has provided insights into a longstanding altercation involving Eedris Abdulkareem and the renowned rapper 50 Cent.

The incident, which occurred in 2004 during a flight during a music tour organized by Nigerian Breweries, has been a subject of much speculation and controversy over the years. KCee’s account sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the altercation and to defend Eedris Abdulkareem’s actions and character.

During the Honest Bunch Podcast and an interview with Naija 102fm, KCee recounted his firsthand experience of the event. He emphasized that contrary to popular belief, 50 Cent himself was not directly involved in the altercation. Instead, it was 50 Cent’s crew who initiated a dispute with Eedris over seating arrangements in the business class section of the plane.

According to KCee, Eedris believed he was entitled to the same treatment as 50 Cent based on an agreement with Nigerian Breweries. Consequently, Eedris refused to vacate his seat, leading to a physical altercation with 50 Cent’s crew. The incident escalated quickly and caught the attention of Nigeria’s then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, prompting intervention from the Inspector General of Police.

KCee also revealed that his brother, E-Money, who was managing him at the time, captured the entire incident on a camcorder. However, the situation became even more intense when 50 Cent’s team forcibly took the recording device to prevent the footage from being released. This aggressive act underscored the tense atmosphere surrounding the altercation.

Despite the negative publicity that followed the incident, KCee stood by Eedris Abdulkareem, portraying him as someone passionate about the Nigerian music industry. While acknowledging Eedris’s flaws and confrontational approach, KCee emphasized his contributions to the industry. Other industry figures, such as Jaywon and Paul Okoye, echoed similar sentiments, recognizing Eedris’s significant impact on Nigerian music.

In essence, KCee’s revelations provided valuable insights into a significant moment in Nigerian music history, highlighting the complexities and tensions that can arise among artistes. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges and controversies that accompany fame and success in the music industry, while also showcasing the resilience and passion of those who contribute to its growth and evolution.
