A scene of mild tension unfolded at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG) Lion of Judah parish in Isiokpo, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers state, during the funeral service for the late Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, and son, Chizy, on Saturday, March 9.

Reports indicate that the bodies of Wigwe, his wife, and son, who tragically perished in a helicopter crash in the United States, were repatriated to Nigeria on Friday, March 8, for their final burial in Rivers state.

During the wake-keeping, a moment of unease arose when an individual identified as the “RCCG pastor” unintentionally omitted to acknowledge Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), despite extending recognition to other distinguished guests.

This oversight triggered murmurs and dissatisfaction among the attendees. Upon being made aware of the error, the “RCCG pastor” swiftly apologized and duly acknowledged the presence of Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, at the event.

Although the pastor’s apology and subsequent acknowledgment mollified the situation, supporters of Obi on X alleged that the incident was indicative of an ongoing political agenda against the LP stalwart, who is speculated to be eyeing the 2027 presidential election.
