In a stunning development, Oba Lekan Balogun, the Olubadan of Ibadan, has dethroned Wale Oladoja as the Mogaji Akinsola of Opopo Labiran family compound. The monarch has directed Oladoja’s family to promptly nominate a replacement.

This decision follows Oladoja’s suspension as Mogaji by the Olubadan Advisory Council six months ago. The council convened an emergency meeting at the Olubadan’s Alarere residence, attended by representatives of the Association of Mogajis of Ibadanland and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes.

According to a press statement by the Olubadan’s Personal Assistant (Media), Oladoja’s removal stems from recent disrespectful remarks he made about the Olubadan and the traditional institution of Ibadanland in the media. The council deemed his comments divisive and unbecoming of a leader.

Previously, the Olubadan Advisory Council suspended Oladoja for his inhumane execution of a supposed court judgment on a land matter, which led to the eviction of residents in Akinsola village. Despite his brief suspension, Oladoja’s conduct failed to reflect genuine remorse.

At the recent meeting, the council unanimously agreed that Oladoja’s behavior displayed a lack of respect for authority. Consequently, the Akinsola Family, which initially nominated him as Mogaji, was instructed to nominate a replacement if they still desired a substantive Mogaji.

Despite being invited to the meeting, Oladoja failed to appear, citing his mother’s recent passing as the reason. However, council members dismissed this excuse, viewing it as an attempt to avoid accountability. They questioned the authenticity of his claim, noting his continued social media activity without any mention of his mother’s demise.

The council’s decision to strip Oladoja of his title underscores its commitment to upholding discipline and respect within the traditional institution of Ibadanland.
