In response to public outrage, the police command spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the arrest of Sgt. Imakor. According to Nwabuzor, the officer confessed to the Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, that he had indeed slapped the woman identified as Mercy Ajayi. However, he claimed that the woman had first slapped him during her arrest, alleging her involvement in the theft of human hair from a hotel department.

CP Adegboye swiftly ordered for the officer’s arrest and initiated disciplinary proceedings, known as an orderly room trial, against him. The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the command to uphold democratic policing standards and ensure officers conduct themselves professionally.

Furthermore, CP Adegboye urged the public to report any unprofessional conduct by police officers and emphasized the importance of citizens respecting law enforcement while also obeying the rule of law
