In response to the recent death of a student at Abia State University (ABSU) during a clash between rival cult groups, the Abia State Government has launched an investigation into the incident, aiming to restore peace and order on campus.

Mr. Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, disclosed this during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Umuahia.

Addressing the press, Kanu acknowledged the reports of skirmishes within student groups at ABSU, which have led to the loss of life as depicted in circulating online videos. He emphasized the government’s commitment to swift action, highlighting the dispatch of security agencies to the university to quell the unrest and maintain control of the situation.

Furthermore, Kanu assured the public that a thorough investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and to hold accountable those responsible for perpetrating violence on campus.

In his admonition to students across tertiary institutions in the state, the Commissioner urged them to refrain from participating in any form of violence or activities that could jeopardize their safety and academic pursuits
