Finidi George To Lead Super Eagles In Upcoming Friendlies

The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, will be led by a familiar face in their upcoming friendly matches!  Finidi George, a respected former player and assistant coach under Jose Peseiro, will be taking the reins for the games against Ghana and Mali.

This comes after Peseiro stepped down following the Super Eagles’ impressive run at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in February 2023. Although they narrowly lost to Ivory Coast in the final, it was a strong showing for the Nigerian team.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that these friendly matches will be the Super Eagles’ first games since the AFCON.  They’ll be facing off against their old rivals, Ghana, on March 22nd, followed by a match against Mali on March 26th.  Both games will be played at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.  Originally, the team was supposed to play Argentina and El Salvador in the United States, but those matches had to be canceled due to logistical issues.

Before Finidi George was announced as the leader for these friendlies, there was talk that Austin Eguaveon might take over temporarily until a permanent coach is chosen.  However, the NFF made it clear that Finidi George would be in charge for these upcoming matches.
