Tinubu Withdrew Ruby

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has withdrawn Ruby Onwudiwe’s nomination to the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to represent the Southeast after reportedly being informed of her support for Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.

GWG.ng reports that the withdrawal follows the earlier rejection of the nomination to the board by Kalu Eke who the news website had exclusively reported opted out of the board because of his extensive linkages with the banking industry.

Two prominent Southwest senators it was gathered had pointed out the impropriety of the nomination to President Tinubu on Wednesday night during his meeting with Senate President Akpabio and other senators.

Some top APC supporters had earlier protested strongly to senior government officials on the abnormality of the nomination of an opposition figure to serve at the apex bank after the news of Ruby Onwudiwe’s nomination.

Tinubu is now expected to announce a new nomination from the Southeast to the CBN board.

A source while explaining why Kalu Eke who has extensive interfaces with the banking industry rejected the nomination to be the Southeast nominee to the CBN board said:

“The conflict comes from the fact that a Nigerian bank seeing that he is in the CBN board may not want to offend him and give loans without doing due diligence. Also may feel that if they reject a loan that his company is arranging may feel that they would be punished by the CBN through his push.
