Tragedy Strikes As University Shuttle Driver Slumps On Wheels, Dies

A tragic incident unfolded on Friday as a shuttle bus driver, identified as Lukman, tragically slumped and died while ferrying students of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN to the campus. The sudden and unexpected demise of the driver left passengers in a state of shock and disbelief.

According to eyewitness reports, the harrowing event occurred during the journey from the Sanrab Petrol Station area in Tanke, Ilorin, to the university campus. A passenger, who was seated in the front of the bus, recounted the harrowing experience in a viral WhatsApp message, detailing how he assumed control of the vehicle to prevent a potential disaster.

In the passenger’s account, he described how he was engrossed in reading the Qur’an on his phone when he was alerted by another passenger shouting for attention. Upon looking up, he witnessed the driver gasping for breath as the bus veered off course. With quick thinking and decisive action, the passenger took control of the bus, applied the brakes, and brought it to a halt, averting a potential catastrophe.

Sadly, despite efforts to assist him, driver was pronounced dead upon arrival at the UNILORIN Campus clinic after he had slumped on the wheel. His sudden passing sent shockwaves through the university community, with colleagues and acquaintances expressing disbelief and mourning the loss of a beloved friend and colleague.

One of Lukman’s colleagues, identified as Sulyam, reflected on the fragility of life, emphasizing the unpredictability of mortality. He recounted Lukman’s recent words of condolence following an accident he had experienced just a day prior, highlighting the transient nature of existence.

Confirming the tragic incident, the Director of Information at the University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of life.
