In a social media post, a Nigerian man from Nnewi, Anambra State, expressed his frustration after receiving a marriage list from his bride-to-be’s family that included exorbitant demands.

The man, identified as @Kene_Nnewi, took to the platform to share his dismay at the outrageous items listed by his future in-laws. According to the marriage list, the groom-to-be was expected to provide 12 cartons of beer, a large goat, and six packets of cigarettes for the bride’s family.

Additionally, the list included requests for various gallons of Ngwa wine, adding to the financial burden placed on the groom.

Expressing his frustration, the man lamented the escalating costs associated with marriage rites in Nigeria, describing the behavior of his future in-laws as greedy and unreasonable.

“The marriage list we collected this morning… I decided not to speak. I just chill,” the man wrote. “To me… This is crazy… and it’s getting more crazy every day.”

Highlighting the inflated prices of basic items, the groom-to-be emphasized the financial strain imposed by the demands of the marriage list. He pointed out the rising costs of commodities such as a crate of Amstel malt, which currently sells for ₦9,200, further illustrating the burden placed on individuals preparing for marriage ceremonies.

As the discussion sparked debate on social media, many users echoed the groom’s sentiments, expressing concern over the commercialization of marriage traditions and the pressure it places on couples and their families.
