Club football returns this weekend after a one-week absence due to the international break with top Nigerian stars showcasing their talents in the major leagues in Europe. GWG.ng takes a look at five of the best Nigerian players to watch out for this weekend:

1. Ademola Lookman

The Atalanta forward is in great form since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria. He has scored 2 goals in 5 games for Atalanta across all competitions. Including a goal to help his side progress to the quarterfinal of the UEFA Europa League. The 26-year-old also scored for the Super Eagles in their 2-1 win over Ghana in the just concluded international break. Against struggling defending champions Napoli, he will be looking to add more misery to their undermining season.

2. Victor Osimhen

The African Footballer of the Year, Osimhen will be looking to return to action for the first time in three weeks. A small injury concern kept him out of the national team squad for the international break but he resumed team training recently and will be in the squad for their Saturday Serie A clash with Atalanta. Osimhen has a fine goalscoring form against them and he will be hoping to continue that run in the clash between two of the top Nigerian stars in Europe.

3. Victor Boniface

Another name that could be on the watch out for this weekend is Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface. Since his injury in late December, Boniface has not featured for either club or country missing the Africa Cup of Nations for Nigeria and more than three months of game time with his club. However, the 23-year-old could make a return to Xabi Alonso’s squad after fully recovering from his injury. With his prowess in front of goal he can help his side maintain their 10-point lead at the top in their hopes to win the Bundesliga title.

4. Alex Iwobi

After a bitter end to his Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Alex Iwobi has been in blistering form for Fulham in the Premier League. He scored the winning goal in a record breaking first ever away win at Old Trafford as the Cottagers beat Man United 2-1. He was also instrumental in their 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their last league game.

GWG.ng reports that during the international break, Iwobi provided a game winning assist against Ghana to help the Super Eagles to a 2-1 win over their arch rivals. As Fulham prepare to travel to struggling Sheffield United, Iwobi could well be the man to pull the strings for his side yet again.

5. Gift Orban

Since making a January transfer move to French Ligue 1 side from KAA Gent, Gift Orban has failed to hit the ground running. He has scored just one goal which was in the Coupe de France and he is also without a goal in the league after 8 appearances. As Lyon face Reims, it is 9th versus 10th, two evenly matched sides and an even better chance for the youngster to properly announce himself to the Lyon fans and score his first goal for the club.
