Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has suspended the State’s Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Aminu Kanta, for alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the Ramadan Iftar Feeding Programme in Babura local government area.

The suspension was announced in a press statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, in Dutse, the state capital, on Friday. It takes immediate effect pending the outcome of an investigative committee set up by the governor.

The governor’s action aims to ensure financial accountability and prudent management of public funds, as per the statement.

Earlier, the State Executive Council had approved N2.8 billion for Ramadan Iftar feeding across all 27 local government areas. This program included setting up 600 centers with at least two feeding points in each political ward and additional centers in higher institutions. Each center aimed to feed a minimum of 300 people daily throughout Ramadan.
