Desiree Ellis, the coach of the Banyana Banyana of South Africa, has revealed the reason behind the team’s loss to Nigeria.

Despite dominating the second-leg game in Pretoria, the African champions failed to secure the necessary result against the Falcons. Ellis pointed out that their poor start against the Nigerians and their inability to convert scoring chances contributed to their defeat.

The Banyana Banyana coach expressed disappointment at their performance, especially considering their dominance during the match. Despite their efforts, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and fell short against the Nigerian team. Ellis acknowledged the need for improvement in certain areas to ensure better outcomes in future games.

“We knew that coming into this game – we needed to score, we also knew that we needed to score as early as possible because the longer the game went on, the more desperate we became.

”We didn’t start well, we changed the formation slightly because we needed to score, and we went with three up front – they got a chance very early on, I think that was the only chance they got in the half. But, we didn’t go forward as much as we wanted to in the first half,” added Ellis.
