AEDC Staff, 5 Others Arrested For Transformer Theft (Photos)

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has apprehended a staff of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC and six others for vandalizing and stealing a transformer in the Mpape area of Abuja.

According to a statement released by the Abuja Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the suspects were apprehended on the evening of April 11, 2024, following proactive measures based on credible intelligence in the process of stealing a transformer. Among the arrested individuals is Raymond Mailabari, an employee of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

The statement revealed that the suspects, identified as Kabiru Muhammed, Aliyu Usman, Abdulmalik Alhasassan, Shafi’u Suleiman, Suleiman Ibrahim, and Raymond Mailabari, were intercepted while attempting to flee with a vandalized transformer loaded onto a crane truck in the Maitama area.

Police operatives swiftly intervened and successfully apprehended the suspects. Alongside the transformer, authorities also recovered a crane truck, a blue-colored Mercedes Benz with registration number PKN 497 XA, a white-colored J5 bus with registration number RBC 228 XC, and an ash-colored Peugeot 406 car with registration number GSN 13 AA, which belonged to the AEDC staff member.

While investigations into the incident are ongoing, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the territory. He urged residents to remain vigilant and utilize police emergency lines to report any suspicious activities promptly.
