The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning against the mutilation of Nigerian currency, following the recent conviction of popular crossdresser, Bobrisky, for the same offence.

In a social media post published on Friday, the anti-corruption agency emphasized the consequences of disregarding the directive, cautioning that those found guilty could face conviction.

The EFCC’s message, conveyed through the hashtag #SayNoToAbuseoftheNaira, shows the importance of respecting the integrity of the nation’s currency. The agency emphasized that preaching alone may not suffice to deter offenders, hence the necessity for legal action.

The post further included a taunting rhyme aimed at Bobrisky, stating, “Na our Naira you dey Abuse Change your ways, you Refuse When the EFCC comes to Accuse Know say you no go get Excuse, Ask Bob for the update to Use.”

GWG.ng reports that this move by the EFCC comes amid public outcry that the conviction of Bobrisky was selective given the wide array of individuals involved in the abuse of the naira. While the conviction of Bobrisky has drawn attention to the issue, questions remain about the handling of similar cases involving prominent figures by the EFCC.

GWG.ng reports that following the conviction of Bobrisky several videos were uploaded of other prominent Nigerians involved in spraying the naira in a move to lure the EFCC.
