Liverpool’s title aspirations suffered yet another massive dent as they surprisingly lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Anfield courtesy of a goal from England International, Eberechi Eze.

The 25-year-old British-born Nigerian finished a smart team move early in the game for Oliver Glasner’s visitors and though Jurgen Klopp’s side pushed hard for the equaliser, their wastefulness in front of goal proved costly with Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah among the most culpable.

Palace had chances to extend their lead, Jean-Philippe Mateta having one effort cleared off the line by Andy Robertson and another saved superbly by the returning Alisson. Eventually, they did not need a second. The three points lift them above Brentford into 14th.

But the consequences for Liverpool are more significant. Having started the day in third, this was an opportunity to move back to the top of the Premier League table. Instead, they risk falling off the pace, Klopp’s final season in danger of finishing in disappointment.

Here are five key facts as Crystal Palace beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield:

• 1 – Crystal Palace have defeated Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since April 2017.

• 3 – Liverpool are now winless in three consecutive games across all competitions, losing twice with one draw.

• 1 – The Reds have now lost at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time since October 2022 when they lost to Leeds 2-1.

• 2.87 – Liverpool’s xG (Expected Goals) total v Crystal Palace was 2.87 – their most on record (since 2010-11) in a Premier League match in which they did not score. Indeed, it was the most xG without scoring by any side in the competition since Brighton v Norwich in April 2022 (2.87).

• 9 – Liverpool have now conceded in each of their last nine Premier League games at Anfield; their joint-longest run at home without a clean sheet in the competition (also 9 in December 1996 and May 1999).
