The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is set to elect a new national chairman on Thursday after the suspended chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu on Wednesday formally withdrew his court case against his suspension.
GWG.ng reports that the move was followed by the decision of the PDP to also withdraw its appeal filed against Ayu.
The development GWG.ng reports has removed what political actors had claimed as the hindrances to the emergence of a new national chairman of the PDP.
The camp of Nyesom Wike which is backing the acting national chairman, Amb Umar Damagum had been asserting that there is no vacancy in the party upon the claim that Ayu had ot given up his claim to the office on account of his court case.
However, with the decision of Ayu to withdraw the case, supporters of the party’s immediate past presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar who are determined to get Damagum out of the office will now project another candidate for the position.
GWG.ng reports that former Governor Gabriel Suswam is believed to be leading the camp of those who are insisting that the new national chairman of the PDP should come from North-Central, the zone that was originally zoned the position.
