The Oyo Police Command has brought twenty-nine suspects before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan, following their arrest during the attempted invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat on April 13. L

The suspects, identified as Yoruba Nation agitators, were arraigned on Wednesday, facing seven charges including treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

According to Inspector Bakare Rasaq, the Investigative Police Officer from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the charges are in violation of Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000. This marks an increase of eight more suspects since the initial parade of 21 individuals by the Oyo Police Command.

The case, with charge number Mi/520c/2024, is framed as the Commissioner of Police versus the 29 suspects. Earlier, Commissioner of Police Hazmat Adebola had condemned the invasion as criminal and unpatriotic, emphasizing it as a clear case of treasonable felony and terrorism deserving of severe penalties.

Among the apprehended individuals was a 55-year-old lecturer from the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, named Alabi Ogundeji, who expressed no remorse for his involvement in the incident. The invasion, characterized by masked men in army camouflage armed with rifles and l, including members of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division.

Security operatives at the Secretnoariat initially struggled to disperse the agitators, highlighting the severity and disruptive nature of the incident before law enforcement’s intervention.
