Islamic Cleric Sets Wife’s House Ablaze After She Refused Late-Night Prayer

An Ekiti-based Islamic cleric, Ahmed Ojo, allegedly set his wife’s house on fire after she declined to join him in a late-night prayer.

The wife, Bosede Afolabi in an exclusive interview with The Punch, revealed that the incident happened on April 27 Egbe Odo area of Isua Ijesa, Ekiti State when her husband returned home and requested they observe a prayer around 11 pm. Afolabi explained that she was tired after a stressful day at work and declined, which angered her husband and led to a violent outburst.

Despite efforts to calm him down, Ojo’s behavior escalated, prompting Afolabi to seek refuge at a neighbor’s house. Tragically, a neighbor informed her at midnight that her house was on fire, and upon arrival, the building was already engulfed in flames.

Afolabi believes her husband’s actions were influenced by alcohol, as he had been drinking that night. She stated that while they had no prior misunderstandings, Ojo’s behavior had become increasingly erratic due to his drinking habits.

The incident has left Afolabi in a devastating situation, and she has appealed to Nigerians for assistance. The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the incident, and the suspect is currently under investigation at the state’s CID.

This disturbing incident raises concerns about domestic violence and the need for support systems to address such issues. As the investigation continues, we hope for justice and a safe haven for Afolabi and others facing similar challenges.
