Protests over the dethronement of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the emir of Kano burst into the streets of the ancient city on Sunday evening.

GWG.ng reports that the protest in Kano follows a similar protest in Gaya, one of the four emirates abolished and subsumed into the old Kano emirate with Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II as monarch.

The protests are in shadows of the battle for supremacy between Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the dethroned emir who has taken residence in the Nasarwa palace.

Around 4pm on Sunday, young persons marched to the streets to demand a return of the dethroned monarch.

Some of them lit bonfire on the major road as they marched chanting anti-government songs.

Some of the protesters had placards with inscriptions such as: “Abba Kabir Yusuf, Obey Court order”, “Court Brought You”, “You Must Obey The Court”, “Aminu Is Still Our Emir”, “We Are Against Injustice”

Though policemen were observed to be on ground, they, however, did not attempt to disperse the protesters who marched to the streets after observing a special prayer session.

GWG.ng had earlier reported that protesters had marched out in Gaya to protest the disbandment of the emirate.
