Reno shares photo of Obi kneeling before Oba

Former Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, has sparked a controversy on social media after he posted a picture which captured Peter Obi kneeling before the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, in his Palace.

In the picture which Reno posted on his X official handle on Sunday night, Obi was seen kneeling before the King, while other chiefs and palace officials looked on with excitement.

On the other hand, the Labour Party Governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, was seen in a sitting position, paying attention to the king.

Reno accompanied the picture with a caption, “This photo of Peter Obi kneeling before the Oba of Benin speaks historically.

Reno’s tweet quickly sparked the following reactions below:

@dennis o.. said,

Oga were you expecting him to stand to address our revered monarch. We don’t care to know how it’s done where you are from, whether, North, South, East or West. When you are here, you pay obeisance. I hope you won’t add Oba of Benin, Uku akpolokpolo to your mischief spewing.”

@Sir Khal2h said, “I do not know what you are driving with this, but the respect that comes with that throne, even if Tinubu comes there in person, he will kneel or the chiefs will show him the way out.”

@pismon05 said, “”I thought they don’t kneel before anybody. Hypocrites everywhere.”

@Rotmag_olaoluwa said, “When you want to get Amala on credit, you will have to play all manner of tricks, including playing with her baby, so that you can get her favour for the amala. That is what is playing out here.”

@IamOhio said, “There is nothing historical here; it can be viewed only in a contexual manner. That is how we greet our Oba whenever we are in his presense. Peter Obi did the right here by respectfully going down on his kneels before the god-king. Take your silly trolling away from our palace.”

@cjohn8270 said, “Just keep trying to be relevant @reno time will tell.”

@agbogun_barry said, “Wow see how everyone is happy to see him I love you Peter obi.”

@VictorArase said, “Even if you go to the palace of the king surely this is how u are going to speak to him by kneeling, i dear you Mr reno go speak with the king.”

@nneopuru said, “Check well Reno, you will realise that Obi doesn’t have your time. Who is suffering in Nigeria today? Use your tongue and count your teeth.”

@humbleNig said, “You’re gradually loosing your credibility over Peter Obi and I hope you realize soon that you’re actually doing more damage to yourself than Peter Obi.”

@OProspe said, “Taaaaaa Oga sharap. We the igbos have respect. We the igbos are very patient, we don’t judge nor discriminate culture. We kneel when we are being prayed for. So stop talking about what you don’t know about this old man. Try to concentrate more on your fallen family.”

Stating the objective of the visit, Akpata said his visit to the palace of the Oba was to inform the Oba of his ambition and the commencement of his campaign.

“The LP is strong and vibrant to wrest power and deliver the dividends of democracy to the 18 local government areas of the state.

“We are ready to go to every part of the state to sell our manifesto to the people and let them know that we have the capacity to develop the state.

“It will be wrong to start the campaign without visiting the palace and letting the Oba know of my intention,” Akpata said.
