Phillip Shaibu PDP Governorship Primary

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu has expressed his vindication after the Federal High Court nullified the governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Reacting to the judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo on Thursday, Shaibu asserted that the purported primary election held by the PDP on February 22, 2024, was merely a ceremonial gathering without legal standing.

Shaibu emphasized that he had consistently denounced the conduct of the PDP, accusing the party of undermining internal democracy through the fraudulent manner in which the supposed primary election was carried out at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Shaibu argued that the PDP delegates who supported him in his own parallel primary election were the legitimate representatives chosen by the people to select the party’s governorship candidate.

Regarding speculation about his potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shaibu stated that there was no issue with switching parties as long as democracy serves the interests of the majority.

“When you see a political party wooing people to its group, that party wants to win but when you see a party chasing people away as in the case of the PDP, that party is planning nothing but rigging of election.

Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo invalidated the PDP primary election held on February 22, citing the unlawful exclusion of 378 delegates who were supposed to participate in the voting process.
