The stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East, Abia State Chapter have decried the recent appointments of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Federal Agencies and Parastatals.

This was revealed in the stakeholders’ platform, ‘Abia APC Stakeholders Forum.’

According to members, it is very fair that of the eleven recent appointments made by the President, none is headed by a South Easterner.

The members also queried the rationale behind the Presidency appointing the chairmen of NSITF and NDE without ceding such positions to the Minister of State for Labour and Employment. Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha who is South East

According to the APC South east stakeholders, appointments into government political offices should not be based on polling units’ votes as governance is different from politics.

The government agencies and Parastatals that the President appointed their new chief Executives and other Directors are: the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA), National Productivity Centre (NPC), National Agriculture Land Development Authority (NALDA), National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) and Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

Others are the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), National Pension Commission (PenCom) and Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

Most of the heads of the Agencies and Parastatals are from the South West.

It would be recalled also that the South East is the only geopolitical zone with five ministers, while the South West and North West have 10 each.

The Abia APC Stakeholders forum posited that the APC leaders from the South east zone should be able to attract political offices for the zone since the zone is growing in APC membership.  (Sunday Telegraph)
