Outrage As Dollar Overwhelms Naira During Nigerian Governor’s Wife’s Lavish Birthday Party (Video)

An outrage has erupted on social media after Fatima Ahmad Aliyu, wife of Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State threw a lavish birthday party with some guests seen spraying her dollar notes.

A viral video seen by GWG.ng on X, captured the guests flamboyantly spraying Dollars notes on the Sokoto governor’s wife at a time when Nigerians are generally grappling with hardship and hunger in the country.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics 2022 report, which is the latest official report on poverty index by Nigerian states, Sokoto State ranks first among the poorest states in the country with 90.5 percent of people living in the state poor.  

The report noted, “Overall, 65 per cent of poor people – 86 million people live in the North, while 35 per cent – nearly 47 million – live in the South. 

Additionally, Sokoto state is also characterized with a high debt profile and among the most terrorized states in the North.

The actions of the Sokoto governor’s wife amid the harsh reality of the statistics above has erupted vexation among Nigerians who took to their social media handles to express their displeasure. See some comments from Facebook:

Kenneth Akubueze commented, “Sokoto is one of the poorest State in Nigeria and such news is coming out from it, this has shown that the political class doesn’t care about the sufferings of the masses.”
