Rivers: New Dimension To Wike, Fubara Fight As Court Bars PDP From Holding Ward Congresses
In a new twist to the crisis between Governor Simi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, a court has barred the PDP from holding the scheduled congresses in its wards across Rivers State
Justice Charles N. Wali of the Rivers High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has barred members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from gathering in anywhere in the State to hold their scheduled Ward Congresses.
The court also barred PDP National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum; and the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; or their agents from gathering anywhere in Rivers State to hold Ward, Local Government Area, and State congresses of the party pending the hearing and determination of the suit before it.
The Judge made the orders while delivering his ruling in suit and filed by bona-fide party members from across the wards in the 23 local government areas of the State.
The judge also ordered the IGP; Commissioner of Police, Rivers State; Director-General, Department Security Service (DSS); and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); to ensure the order is adhered to.
The judge adjourned the hearing to 1st of August, 2024 for hearing of the substantive suit.
The PDP in Rivers had initially scheduled its for Ward, Local Government and State Congresses to hold on July 27, August 10 and August 31, 2024 respectively.
GWG.ng reports that the court order barring the Rivers State chapter of the PDP from holding its ward congresses is another dimension to the power tussle that has put the governor of the state, Mr Simi Fubara against his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
