Oshiomhole Under Fire After Mocking Obaseki For Being Childless

The Edo governorship election campaign has been engulfed in a new storm after Comrade Adams Oshiomhole rebuked the incumbent first lady, Betsy Obaseki for being childless.

Amid preparations for the Edo gubernatorial elections slated for  September 21, the former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, has come under fire after mocking the incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy for being childless.

In a chat with journalists that went viral, Oshiomhole was seen reacting to claims by Betsy Obaseki that only Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate was the only one of the major candidates with a wife.

It was gathered that during the PDP’s campaign flag-off at the Ubiaja Township Stadium in Esan South-East Local Government Area, Mrs Obaseki introduced Ifeyinwa, Ighodalo to the crowd, emphasising the importance of having a woman in the Government House.

“Let us vote for the best candidate in this coming election, and I want to introduce the wife. Incidentally, among all the candidates, only one has a wife, and it’s our own party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo. Only he has a wife. This is the wife, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo.

“Edo women, know that only one candidate has a wife. Better things come to women when there’s a woman in the Government House. All women in Edo, regardless of party, should see the candidate who has a wife. They will take us higher only the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo,” she said.

Reacting to the comment, Oshiomhole said that Mrs Obaseki was not in a position to remark on other’s marital status given that she and her husband were childless.

Oshiomhole said, “I was shocked when Mrs Obaseki said our candidate has no wife, because here is a woman who has no child.

“She and Obaseki have no child, they are not ready to adopt. People who have love for children go to Motherless Babies home to adopt children. They are both in their 60s.”

The Former Governor added, “Our candidate not only has children, he has invested in the education of those children. One is Medical doctor, the second is a Lawyer and they addressed both addressed the crowd in Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North and their mother was there.”

Oshiomole’s comment about Mrs Obaseki being childless quickly sparked disapproval from netizens on social media. See some reactions below:
