Ganiyu Oyedepo, better known as Kokozaria, one of the leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has been sent to prison by a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The court made this decision after Kokozaria was charged with conspiracy, assault causing harm, and actions likely to disturb public peace.

The charges stem from an incident on June 5, 2024, in Idimu, Lagos, where Kokozaria and his associates were accused of attacking Alhaji Ade Adele, a Nollywood actor also known as Baba Lawori.

The prosecutor, Morufu Animashaun, from the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), reported that Adele was injured by a broken bottle during the assault.

Chief Magistrate B. Sonuga handled the case, labeled B/40/2024, where Kokozaria denied the charges. Despite his plea, the magistrate decided to keep him in custody due to the serious nature of the accusations. Animashaun noted that the charges violated sections 411, 173, and 168 (l)(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law.

The specific charges against Kokozaria include conspiring to commit a felony and assaulting Adele, which are in breach of Sections 411 and 173 of the Lagos State Criminal Law.
