The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has condemned the Presidency for attempting to damage his reputation by making unfavorable comparisons to Donald Trump and the American presidential election.

In a statement released on Sunday, titled “Why Desperate OBI Traducers Are Kissing the Dust?” and signed by his Spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, Obi accused the Presidency and its supporters of twisting facts to harm his reputation. Obi described these attempts as misguided and pointless.

Umar pointed out that “For these traducers, it would be a huge omission for a day to pass without finding something to negatively link Obi within the media space.” He added that if Obi and his family are not being falsely accused of violence, they are being misrepresented in the media to suit dubious motives. Umar criticized the Presidency’s efforts to connect Obi with Donald Trump and the American election as laughable and a way to curry favor with the Democrats.

Umar continued, “We are very much aware of the motive behind these ridiculous comparisons, which is their uncanny way of currying favour so undeserved from the Democrats.” He questioned whether calling Obi “a Trump” implies that Tinubu is like Kamala Harris.

Umar argued that those comparing Obi and Tinubu to Trump and Harris are ignoring key differences in their morals, transparency, and policies. He said that such comparisons highlight the weaknesses of the current administration and its failure to address Nigeria’s issues effectively.

Umar also pointed out the irony that while the current President has been distant and unaccountable, Obi has become a prominent and articulate figure in Nigerian politics. He urged Nigerians to not be fooled by misleading propaganda and to focus on their goal of a better Nigeria.

Finally, Umar urged Obi’s supporters, both in Nigeria and abroad, to stay focused and continue working towards a positive change in Nigeria.
