Bobrisky Saga: VeryDarkMan’s Lawyer Responds To Falz’s Apology Demand

In a new twist to the ongoing legal dispute between Nigerian human rights activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, and social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, the latter’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has responded to the demands made by Falz’s legal representatives.

In a formal reply dated September 25, 2024, Deji Adeyanju addressed a letter to Taiwo E. Olawanle, Esq. of Falana & Falana Chambers, refuting the defamation allegations against his client.

Adeyanju emphasized that VeryDarkMan did not defame Femi Falana, SAN, a renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria and respected human rights activist. Instead, he argued that the voice recording published by his client on social media was part of an attempt to bring attention to certain far-reaching claims made by Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

The letter asserts that the voice recording included Bobrisky’s allegations, which needed to be thoroughly investigated by the relevant authorities, rather than being construed as an attack on Falana. “Our client holds Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, in very high esteem and recognizes his commitment to the protection of human rights and the rule of law in Nigeria,” Adeyanju wrote.

According to the legal statement, VeryDarkMan believes that the proper course of action should be an interagency investigation into the allegations raised in the voice recording, as opposed to pursuing a defamation lawsuit. Adeyanju also reiterated that some elements of the voice note had been confirmed by Falz himself in an earlier letter sent by his legal team.

This response follows Falz’s earlier demand for an immediate retraction and apology from VeryDarkMan over what Falana & Falana Chambers described as “vicious, wicked and reckless” defamatory statements that could harm Falz’s reputation. Falz’s legal team had threatened legal action if VeryDarkMan failed to retract the statements and issue a formal apology within 24 hours.

With Falz and Verydarkman now firmly entrenched in their positions, the spotlight is on whether the case will move forward as a legal battle or if there will be an interagency investigation as requested by the lawyer of VeryDarkMan.
