How Tinubu, Shettima Marked 64th Independence Anniversary
By Benjamin Abioye
President Bola Tinubu, along with Vice President Kashim Shettima and other high-ranking officials, celebrated Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary with a modest but meaningful event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
The celebration featured a military parade held at the front of the villa, with the elite Brigade of Guards and other security personnel present to ensure safety.
To maintain security, screening was thorough at the main entrance and a strong security presence was maintained throughout the event. President Tinubu arrived at the venue at 10 AM, welcomed by the sound of pipers, and inspected a Quarter Guard set up by the Guards Brigade. He then took his place on the saluting dais to receive the national salute, officially starting the day’s activities.
The celebration included a presidential change of guards and a Nigerian Armed Forces Colour patrol, showcasing the nation’s military strength and pride.
The audience, which included cabinet ministers, presidential aides, and diplomatic members, was captivated by a performance from the Silent Drill Platoon of the Guards Brigade.
Additionally, a combined mass band and cultural troupe performed, representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and celebrating the country’s rich cultural diversity.
The festivities concluded with President Tinubu signing the anniversary register and ceremoniously cutting the anniversary cake alongside Vice President Shettima, National Assembly leaders, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The ceremony wrapped up with the release of doves, symbolizing the nation’s hopes for peace and unity.
