The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has commenced pre-enforcement actions against Elon Musk’s Starlink after the company announced an increase on its subscription package without getting approval from the regulator.

The NCC in a statement signed by the NCC’s director of public affairs, Mr Reuben Muoka said that the communication outfit did not get the approval of the NCC prior to effecting the subscription increase.

Responding to the development, the NCC said:

“The decision by Starlink to unilaterally review its subscription packages upwards did not receive the approval of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

“The action of the company is in contravention of Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA), 2003, and Starlink’s Licence Conditions regarding tariffs.

“The Commission commenced pre-enforcement action on the licensee on the 3rd of October, 2024.”

GWG.ng reports that the Elon Musk owned Starlink recently effected an increase in its subscription rates to take effect with effect from the end of October.

The company also announced that the cost of its hardware would also increase. The company had blamed the rising cost of doing business in the country for the decision on the increases.
