Rivers: Wike Finally Hits Back Hard At Atiku

Wike Atiku remarks

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has responded strongly to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s criticism of the recent local government elections in Rivers State.

Atiku had suggested that the results, which saw the Action Peoples Party (APP) win 22 out of 23 local government chairmanships, showed the people’s rejection of Wike’s leadership.

Wike, speaking at a luncheon held in honor of the 10th Legislative Assembly of Rivers State, dismissed Atiku’s comments by pointing out the former Vice President’s own repeated electoral failures. Wike reminded the public that Atiku had contested and lost the presidential elections in both 2019 and 2023 as the PDP candidate.

In his remarks, Wike said, “We never contested local government elections. Did we pick any form? I hear Atiku Abubakar saying, ‘Oh, they have rejected me in Rivers State.’ Okay, assuming though not conceding, he had lost so many times. Nigerians have also rejected him.”

He continued, “If you say for an election we did not contest, that it shows Nigerians have rejected us, it is okay. You, who contested and failed miserably, Nigerians have clearly rejected you. So, pack up and go home.”

Wike’s response highlights the ongoing tension between him and Atiku following the elections and adds to their political rivalry.
