Peculiar Ex-Boyfriend

A tragic story is unfolding in Afashio-Uzairue, a town near Auchi in Edo State, where a young woman, identified as Peculiar, allegedly poisoned her ex-boyfriend, his new girlfriend, and three friends, leading to their deaths.

According to reports, Peculiar used poisoned pepper soup to carry out the act against her ex-boyfriend sparking outrage across social media platforms. Following the incident, she was reportedly apprehended by soldiers after a mob from the local community attempted to take matters into their own hands.

As the story spreads, Twitter users have coined the nickname “Sam Larry Smalls” for Peculiar, connecting her actions to the controversial figure Sam Larry, a known associate of Marlian Records, headed by Naira Marley. This nickname underline an ongoing distrust towards the “Marlian” circle, as many are quick to draw parallels between Peculiar’s actions and the controversy surrounding Marlian Records members.

This public sentiment about Pecuilar and her ex-boyfriend stems from the events following the tragic passing of Nigerian musician Mohbad on September 12, 2023. Sam Larry, Zinoleesky, and Naira Marley— all associated with the label—faced severe backlash, with allegations linking them to Mohbad’s death. Many speculated he may have been poisoned, although police investigations have since cleared the trio of involvement.

In the case of Peculiar and the death of her ex-boyfriend, her alleged affiliation with Marlian music and fanbase around Zinoleesky and Naira Marley has fueled the conversation. Netizens have brought up unresolved feelings over Mohbad’s demise and rehash old suspicions surrounding Marlian Records. Despite the official clearing of allegations in Mohbad’s case, the association has left a lasting imprint on public opinion, with many unwilling to move on.
