This new report follows the recent arrest of Engonga, who faces allegations of recording over 400 intimate encounters involving high-profile women, including wives and relatives of top government officials. Engonga, 54, was detained amid a fraud investigation that led officials to conduct an unplanned search of his residence and office, where they discovered numerous CDs containing footage of these encounters. In these videos, he was reportedly seen with figures such as his brother’s wife, the sister of the president, the wife of the police chief, and several ministers’ wives.

The Engonga scandal quickly gained public attention, particularly after many of the videos surfaced online, triggering outrage. According to the local media outlet ‘Ahora EG,’ many of the recorded encounters appear to have been consensual, though some were captured within Engonga’s office, often with national symbols such as the Equatorial Guinean flag visible in the background.

Attorney General Nzang Nguema, commenting on the scandal, clarified that consensual relations are not regarded as a criminal offense under Equatorial Guinean law unless force or coercion is involved. However, he expressed concern about the potential for health risks, including disease transmission, advising any affected individuals to report cases of coercion or assault.

In the wake of these revelations, the government swiftly suspended Engonga and other officials found engaging in inappropriate activities within public offices. Vice President Nguema Mangue reaffirmed the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on actions that tarnish public service integrity, stressing that officials must adhere to the highest standards of respect and ethics.

Now, with reports of a woman’s suicide circulating on social media, the scandal has taken a darker and more tragic turn, raising further questions about the wider impact of this scandal on the individuals involved. This heart-wrenching development casts a somber shadow over the situation, showing the emotional and social toll surrounding this unprecedented controversy in Equatorial Guinea. The government is expected to address the recent tragedy in the coming days as the scandal continues to reverberate across the nation.
