Police Recover Head Of Murdered Okada Rider Inside River
Detectives from the Kwara State police have recovered the severed head of Rafiu Akao, an Okada rider who was killed by three assailants.
The head was found in a nearby stream after the crime, which took place in the Asunlere community, located in Oke-Oyi town, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.
A police spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, confirmed the discovery in a statement on Friday. He revealed that the head of 34-year-old Rafiu Akao was recovered by investigators at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ilorin.
The police identified the three suspects as Peter Samuel, Jeremiah Tiozinda, and Sunday Agbenke, who confessed to the crime. They explained that their motive was to steal Akao’s motorcycle.
According to the police, Sunday Agbenke provided Peter Samuel with Akao’s phone number to lure him to a secret location. When they met, Peter Samuel claimed he needed to relieve himself, which allowed Jeremiah Tiozinda to strike Akao on the head with a stick. After Akao fell off his motorcycle, he attempted to escape but was overpowered by the suspects. Peter Samuel then used a cutlass to sever Akao’s head, while Tiozinda threw the head and the cutlass into a stream before fleeing with the motorcycle.
The commotion attracted the attention of a vigilante group on patrol, who chased the suspects. In the process, the criminals abandoned the motorcycle and fled into the bush. Police later found Peter Samuel’s mobile phone at the scene, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
The police assured the public that the suspects would be taken to court once investigations are completed. The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, emphasized his commitment to protecting the lives and properties of the people of Kwara.
He also reaffirmed the enforcement of a curfew restricting motorcycle and tricycle movement from 9 pm to 6 am daily.
