“May God Punish You”: Pastor Slams Church Members Over Lack Of Birthday Gifts (Video)
A video of a female pastor’s fiery outburst during a church service has gone viral, after she expressed anger at her congregation for not contributing gifts during her birthday celebration.
The viral clip, shared by user Naija_PR on X (formerly Twitter), showed the pastor passionately condemning church members for failing to gift her despite their attendance at the birthday service.
The pastor, in a visibly frustrated tone, criticized the congregation for their perceived lack of generosity towards her on her birthday and for their lack of gifts.
“You, have the wisdom of the world,” she begins, directing her anger towards those who did not contribute. “May God punish you because you are wicked,” raising her voice with each word. “When I stand here, I preach, some of you come to my office, disturb me with prayers, yet you refuse to contribute!”
She emphasized that the contributions were not for her personal benefit but for the food and festivities that attendees themselves were to enjoy. “Some of you gave nothing and you eat like a pig and even take away. I will say it, if you are angry, change,” she challenged the congregation over ther reluctance to give.
The pastor then highlighted her own generosity, stating, “When I know that you are struggling, I give you the little that I have. I give because I’m sure that I’m a kingdom citizen.” She also mentioned that 90% of the celebration costs were covered by her husband, urging the congregation to reflect on their attitudes toward giving. “It’s not about the money, it’s about your heart,” she concluded.
The viral video of the pastor and her craving for birthday gifts has been drawing a range of reactions from both churchgoers and the wider online community.
Many have criticized the pastor’s aggressive tone, accusing her of entitlement and turning the church into a business. One user, @ONYE__Dot, remarked, “This is one of the major reasons why a lot of people are no longer going to church, especially the young generation. These pastors have made themselves God before the members.” Another commenter, @SamuelIse3, shared a similar sentiment, pointing out the “entitlement” displayed by the pastor. “Can you see the man over there moving himself like a robot? Actually, don’t blame her, I blame the people who will still return to that church the following Sunday,” they said.
Other comments reflected amusement at the pastor’s choice of words, particularly when she invoked a strong phrase. @Reyex49 humorously noted, “This video must have been recorded in Ghana. The guy who exclaimed ‘eei’ when she said ‘May God punish you’ really cracked me up. Only Ghana do that thing.”
Meanwhile, some users expressed sympathy for the churchgoers, with @gabriel_bolatit lamenting, “I pity the members, they have entered one chance vehicle.”
In contrast, others found the situation laughable, with @TrybeCityJobs commenting, “Not them clapping and cheering after. Africans, we will be alright sha.”
The video’s mix of indignation, humor, and social commentary has sparked a broader conversation about church culture, especially regarding how funds are raised and distributed within religious communities. Many have questioned whether such demands for donations are indicative of a deeper issue within religious institutions.
Despite the controversy, the video’s virality shows that this issue resonates with many, both inside and outside the church. While some dismiss the pastor’s rant as excessive, others feel it highlights a growing disconnect between church leaders and their congregations, especially in a society where questions about the financial transparency of churches are becoming more prevalent.
