South African Tyla Breaks Beyoncé’s 2024 Spotify Streaming Record
South African singer Tyla has achieved a historic milestone, surpassing Beyoncé to set a new Spotify record.
Tyla’s self-titled album has become the most-streamed album by a black female artiste released in 2024, amassing an incredible 1.565 billion streams on the platform. This feat pushed past Beyoncé’s album ‘Cowboy Carter,’ which held 1.564 billion streams.
Additionally, Tyla’s album now holds the record as the most-streamed album by a female African artiste in Spotify’s history.
The lead single from the album, “Water,” has been a standout success, drawing close to a billion streams on Spotify. The song also earned Tyla the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammy Awards.
Despite her achievements, her album and its deluxe version were notably left out of the nominations for the 67th Grammys.
However, Tyla’s recognition this year remains unparalleled. She is celebrated as the most awarded African artiste of 2024, securing 20 accolades, including one Grammy, three MTV EMAs, two BET Awards, one MTV VMA, a Billboard Global Force Award, and four South African Music Awards, among others.
With this development Tyla has joined other greats like Whitney Houston who made waves with self titled albums in the music industry.
