Flights Delayed Nationwide After Abuja Airport Runway Accident
Flights were delayed nationwide on Wednesday morning after a runway incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja caused by a cargo plane operated by Allied Air. The airplane overshot the runway in an accident that is now being investigated.
The incident at the Abuja Airport forced the airport authorities to close the runway temporarily, causing widespread flight delays and cancellations.
The disruption affected not only flights departing and arriving in Abuja but also those in other cities reliant on the AbujaTerritory’s operations. Flights originating from Lagos, Calabar, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Ibadan were among those delayed as they awaited the reopening of the Abuja runway.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) revealed that the aircraft could not be immediately removed from the site until the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) were fully apprised of the situation. These regulatory bodies must authorize the removal to ensure all safety protocols are followed.
Efforts are ongoing to restore normal flight operations, with passengers advised to prepare for delays while investigations and safety assessments are conducted.
