United Turn The Tide Against City In Stoppage-Time Manchester Derby
By Benjamin Abioye
Manchester United produced a remarkable turnaround to claim a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in a highly anticipated Premier League showdown.
The game showcased the rivalry’s intensity, as both teams displayed moments of tactical brilliance and individual flair, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
Manchester City took the lead in the first half, with Josko Gvardiol heading home Kevin De Bruyne’s perfectly weighted cross in the 36th minute. The goal capped a period of dominance for the home side, who controlled possession and dictated the pace early on. However, United, despite struggling for much of the first half, showed resilience to keep themselves within touching distance.
The second half saw a shift in momentum as Manchester United began to grow into the game. Tactical changes and fresh energy from the substitutes brought them closer to the City goal. The turning point came in the 86th minute when Matheus Nunes conceded a penalty for a clumsy trip on Amad Diallo. Bruno Fernandes stepped up with composure, converting from the spot to level the score at 1-1.
Just as it seemed the match was destined for a draw, United found their winner deep into stoppage time. Amad Diallo latched onto a precise assist from Lisandro Martínez and fired a left-footed strike past Ederson Moraes in the 90th minute, silencing the home crowd and sealing a dramatic victory for the visitors.
City pushed hard in the dying moments, but United’s defense, led by the composed Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf, held firm to secure all three points. With the win, Manchester United not only claimed bragging rights but also reignited their league campaign, proving their resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
