Ibadan Stampede: Naomi Being Treated Like A Terrorist – Sister

The sister of Naomi Silekunola, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, has spoken about her ordeal during a recent court arraignment. Simi Oluwaseyi alleged that Naomi was treated unfairly and described her experience as resembling that of a terrorist.

Simi revealed on social media that Naomi faced charges of murder during her court appearance. She also explained that their family was denied access to Naomi while she was in detention, even though legal experts assured her the charges were bailable.

She wrote, “All my sister wanted to do was bring happiness to children this Christmas, as she has done for years. Sadly, things did not go as planned. Tragically, innocent children lost their lives. My heart breaks for them, and I am deeply sorry for this. However, my sister was arrested and detained for over six days. On the third day, she collapsed during questioning by the DSS and was taken to the hospital.”

Simi recounted that Naomi was taken to a magistrate court, where she was charged with murder, among other offenses. She explained that the tragic event happened between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. on the day of a planned children’s event, which had been scheduled to start later that morning.

She added, “The police hospital checked her blood pressure, and it was extremely high even before her court appearance. While in detention, she was isolated from us. My mother had to plead daily just to see her. She wasn’t allowed to use her phone, and I even had to beg for her son to visit her at the hospital.”

Simi also questioned the legal process, stating that Naomi should have been taken to a High Court, not a magistrate court. She continued, “Everyone I consulted told me the offense was bailable, but the situation played out differently. At the court, the security presence was overwhelming, with more than 40 policemen present. Only my mother and brother were allowed to enter the courtroom.”

She concluded by expressing her frustration with the treatment her sister received, emphasizing that justice should be fair and compassionate.
