Akwa Ibom Governor Sacks ‘Udom Emmanuel’s’ Cabinet
By Benjamin Abioye
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has dissolved his cabinet constituted from colleagues who served with him in the cabinet of the immediate past government of Udom Emmanuel.
In explaining his decision, Gov Eno said the move was necessary to bring in new professionals to help advance his administration’s goals.
He made this announcement during a valedictory session on Friday at the Exco Chamber.
Governor Eno took the opportunity to praise the outgoing commissioners for their work, stressing that the decision to dissolve the cabinet was not based on any underperformance. He explained that the change was simply a natural part of the administration’s progression. “For me, if you were to be changed based on non-performance, I think none of the commissioners would go. All of you have delivered, and that’s why the Arise Agenda has succeeded. But we must come to the end of a season, start another season, and keep moving,” he stated.
The outgoing commissioners and advisers had been retained to ensure that they were compensated for their service, as they were not rewarded when the previous administration ended on May 29, 2023.
Many of these commissioners and advisers had served under former Governor Udom Emmanuel, with some having held their positions for nearly a decade. Governor Eno had initially kept them on as a way of compensating them for their work during the transition to his government.
To honor their contributions, Governor Eno announced that a valedictory dinner would be held on Friday evening at the Banquet Hall, Government House in Uyo, for the outgoing cabinet members.
