Okpebholo Disowns Mayaki On Obaseki’s Sienna And Other Things
By Benjamin Abioye
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has clarified that recent press statements made by John Mayaki do not represent his administration’s views.
In a statement issued by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the administration disassociated itself from Mayaki’s remarks, emphasizing that they are not authorized or reflective of the Governor’s official stance on any issue.
GWG.ng reports that Mayaki who served as Obaseki’s spokesman in his first months in office and was subsequently disengaged has been one of the most prominent critics of the former governor and served his latest on his blog titled Edo security: Between Obaseki’s Sienna and Okpebholo’s Hilux
Rejecting the views in the piece as not his own, Okpebholo in a statement issued by Itua said: “The attention of the Office of the Governor of Edo State has been drawn to unauthorized statements issued by Mr. John Mayaki, a former Chief Press Secretary to the immediate past Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki,” Itua stated.
He further explained, “These unauthorized statements do not reflect the official position of the Governor’s Office on any matter and should be disregarded.”
While acknowledging Mayaki’s right as a citizen to express his personal opinions, Itua stressed that such views should not be linked to Governor Okpebholo. “The Governor’s official spokespersons have been duly appointed and announced by Senator Monday Okpebholo. They can be reached through their verified contact information,” he added.
The statement urged the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information about the Governor’s position. “The public is advised to verify any information attributed to the Governor through official channels only,” Itua concluded.
