Presidency Mum As Netizens Debate Tinubu’s Absence At Trump’s Inauguration
By Gideon Ayeni

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s absence at the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump has sent the social media on frenzy, following confirmation of his return to Nigeria.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced Tinubu’s return in a post shared on Monday. He accompanied the announcement with a video showing the President’s arrival at the Presidential Villa alongside members of his entourage.
Onanuga wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account:
“President Bola Tinubu returns to office today after attending the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates.”
The post immediately attracted a flurry of comments from social media users questioning Tinubu’s absence at Trump’s highly publicized inauguration. While some criticized the timing of Tinubu’s engagements, others defended his priorities, arguing that his diplomatic efforts in the UAE align with Nigeria’s national interests.
