Sowore next president of Nigeria

Nigerian activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed shock over what he described as “ridiculous charges” filed against him by law enforcement authorities.

The charges stem from a comment Omoyele Sowore made referring to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, as an “illegal IGP.”

Sowore took to his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), to react to the development, calling it a clear example of Nigeria’s diminishing state. He posted, “These have to be some of the most ridiculous charges ever filed by Nigerian law enforcement agents. @YeleSowore to face charges for calling @PoliceNG retired and fired IGP Kayode Egbetokun ‘Illegal IGP.’ Chai! Nigeria, which was initially diminished, is NOW finished!”

While details of the charges remain unclear, the activist’s statement appears to criticize the legality of Egbetokun as IGP.

Sowore, a prominent voice for social justice and democracy in Nigeria, has been no stranger to confrontations with authorities. However, this latest charge has sent the social media on frenzy, with many questioning the use of legal mechanisms to suppress free speech.
